CHALK IT UP FOR THE ARTS
2007 CORPUS CHRISTI FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—Enjoy the fun and celebrate cultural art as the City of Corpus Christi Arts & Cultural Commission’s Performing Arts Committee presents“Chalk it up for the Arts” for the 2007 Corpus Christi Festival of the Arts. The 2007 Festival highlight event will feature internationally recognized guest artists, Julie Kirk and Melanie Stimmell as they perform the unique art of Street Painting. The festival will also showcase the many local performing art individuals and organizations and their diverse artistic and cultural talents, which are available to Corpus Christi residents and the South Texas region throughout the entire year.
The 2007 Corpus Christi Festival of the Arts will mark its fifth anniversary on March 30, 31 and April 1, 2007, at Heritage Park. The festival events will feature performances by local Ballet, Inish, Folklórico, and additional Dance companies. There will also be exciting musical presentations by local musicians and vocalist groups, recitations and readings of entertaining poetic writings, some indigenous to Corpus Christi. Additionally, there will be an art-full KidZone from Noon to 4pm, exciting visual art exhibits and displays, an entertaining and fun event for the entire family! 
ADMISSION IS FREE to event at Heritage Park, food and beverages will be available for purchase, in addition to the live entertainment and artisans vending their crafts. Opening Ceremony is on Friday, March 30, 2007, at 5:30pm at the GalvánHouse in Heritage Park with a Guest Artist Reception to welcome Ms. Kirk and Ms. Stimmell from 6pm to 8pm. There will be live entertainment, a cash bar and the art exhibit by the Comadres and Amigos will be on display. Festival hours are Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday, from Noon to 5pm.
A FREE Street Painting Workshop will be offered on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 9:30am to 11am at the Harbor Playhouse. All those attending the workshop will have the opportunity to
 
                                                           
attend the presentation, interact with the guest artist and observe Street Painting in the making. This Educational Workshop will involve a 30- to 45-minute slide/PowerPoint lecture that will include the history of street painting, images of the artist’s work and of other street paintings, some discussion of how to make a street painting and a Q&A session. The students will then observe as the artist does a quick demo of how to layer the colors, blending, etc. then the students will have the opportunity to work on their own street paintings. Space is very limited so you are encouraged to register soon. Slide/PowerPoint presentation will take place at the Harbor Playhouse and demo and actual street painting will take place on Brewster and/or Hughes Street. Street Painting Space is limited and will be based upon timely receipt of registration forms so register soon.
