CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— On Wednesday, December 13 at 10:30 a.m., the Texas State Aquarium held a press conference announcing a major gift from the Earl C. Sams Foundation to the Texas State Aquarium, paving the way for construction of the Aquarium’s new Wild Flight Theater.
The Earl C. Sams Foundation is celebrating its 60th anniversary this week, and has given out over $36 million in grants funding a variety of educational, medical, social, religious and environmental projects since its inception.
The Wild Flight Theater represents the first phase of the Aquarium’s renovation and expansion for its Conservation Cove area. This new 300-seat open-air amphitheater will be the site for the Aquarium’s new birds of prey show scheduled to begin in May 2007. Featuring a variety of trained birds, including hawks, owls, falcons and parrots, and other exotic small mammals, these highly entertaining and informative presentations will showcase the inspiring aerial antics of various feathered species through a free-flight performance and deliver an inspiring and empowering message of wildlife conservation.
